Catnip in European folk medicine is a calming agent for body and mind. It is gentle and is very useful for children and infants with digestive or emotional disturbances.

When you have too much anxiety or stress in your life, even smelling the catnip that you give your cat can give you a calming sensation and help soothe your overstimulated nerves. Likewise, if you have had too much caffeine, or are so excited that you just can't think straight, catnip can help soothe your mind and nerves.

The ultimate feline herb, for centuries cats have been going crazy over this plant. It makes them happy and spunky, yet has a more sedating effect on people.

Catnip has been used in European folk medicine for generations as a calming agent for body and mind. It is gentle and is very useful for children and infants with digestive or emotional disturbances. The essential oil has been used as a fragrance in perfumes, as a culinary flavoring, and more recently, as an insect repellant.

Use:

Catnip tea, drunk before bed (a cup or 2 of a strong brew will do) acts to put you to sleep so you can rest at night. To make catnip tea place 3 teaspoons of fresh catnip or 1 teaspoon of dried catnip in a mug. Take the water off the heat and add it only after it has stopped boiling. Boiling water is believed to destroy some of the positive effects of catnip.

Steeping should take no more than 5–10 minutes. You can add other herbs, like mint or lemon grass, to your catnip tea.
